Every year, Congress reauthorizes the Department of Defense budget. Currently, this contains an amendment which bans funding of abortions and peformance of abortions in military facilities thanks to an amendment by former Congressman Robert Dornan (R-CA). This policy has been attacked every time the reauthorization comes up, and it is expected to be attacked again in the 111th Congress. Pro-Lifers are hopeful that pro-life Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO), who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, will be a key leader in preserving this restriction on abortion.
