Hyde Amendment
The Hyde Amendment is an important regulation that prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion through the Medicare and Medicaid programs and other programs funded by Health and Human Services (HHS). In a “wish list” prepared for the Obama transition team, pro-abortion advocates are urging Obama to strike the Hyde Amendment from the presidential budget submitted to Congress. The repeal of the Hyde Amendment would result in a vast expansion of federal taxpayer funding of abortion. |
