Funding for UNFPA
In an extensive “wish-list” submitted to the Obama transition team, pro-abortion leaders want to restore funding to the United Nationals Population Fund (UNFPA). UNFPA has been found to be involved in China’s one-child policy which has been linked to forced and coerced abortions and sterilizations. American taxpayers should not be footing the bill for one of the greatest abuses of human rights today – forced abortion for “population control.” Specifically, the abortion lobby is asking the Obama administration for $65 million in taxpayer funding for UNFPA. This would be done by repealing or ignoring the Kemp-Kasten Amendment, which prohibits funding of any organization that either supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization. The Kemp-Kasten Amendment was originally put into law in 1985 and used by the Reagan administration to defund UNFPA a move which was challenged by the pro-abortion lobby and upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Kemp-Kasten was essentially ignored by the Clinton administration, and used to defund UNFPA by both the George H.W. Bush and the George W. Bush administrations. |
