Mexico City Policy
The Mexico City Policy is a vitally important pro-life regulation that prevents American taxpayers from bankrolling organizations that perform or promote abortions overseas. The Policy was initiatiated by the Reagan administration and adopted by both Bush administrations, and was rescinded by the Clinton administration. On January 23, 2009 President Obama repealed the Mexico City Policy through executive order. On January 28, 2009, pro-Life members of the Senate proposed an amendment to enshrine the Mexico City Policy in law legislatively. They lost the vote to the pro-abortion majority 37-60. Now U.S. taxpayers will be forced to pad the pockets of pro-abortion providers such as International Planned Parenthood. When the Mexico Policy was put into effect, International Planned Parenthood lost 20% of its total taxpayer funding. |
