Human Cloning Prohibition Act (S.1036; H.R.2564)
Bill SummaryThis bill would ban all human cloning; plain and simple. It is not to be confused with S.812 or H.R.2560. These bills respectively introduced by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in the Senate and Diana DeGette (D-CO) in the House claim to ban human cloning but are extremely deceptive. They actually support the creation of a cloned human embryo and demand the destruction of this nascent human life before it gestates to a certain number of days. It only bans the implantation of the cloned human embryo into a woman’s uterus. DeGette’s bill failed to pass the House in June 2007. The Senate bill is in Committee. Bill StatusSenators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) introduced this bill in the Senate and it was referred to Committee in March 2007. Representatives Dave Weldon (R-FL) and Bart Stupak (D-MI) introduced it in the House and it was referred to Committee in July 2007. |
