Elizabeth Cady Stanton Pregnant and Parenting Student Services Act (S.915; H.R.1088)
Bill SummaryThe Elizabeth Cady Stanton Pregnant and Parenting Student Services Act would create a pilot program to provide grants encouraging colleges and universities to establish pregnancy and parenting centers on campus. It would be a resource for pregnant students, parenting students, prospective parenting students who are anticipating a birth or adoption, and students who are placing or have placed a child for adoption. This bill would encourage students to choose life when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. It would also assist students who are already parents with educational resources and support. And by providing support and education about adoption, the centers would encourage choices that support the parents’ choice of life for their children. The centers would not only provide resources on pregnancy and parenting, but would cater to the unique situation of being a college student. Flexible academic schedules, family housing, childcare options, prenatal and post-partum care resources, and other services would be available for students in need. Bill StatusSenator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) and Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) introduced the bill in the Senate in 2007 and it was referred to committee. |
