Jean Schmidt was elected to the House of Representatives in an August 2005 special election to serve Ohio’s 2nd Congressional district. She is the former president of Cincinnati Right to Lifeand served as a pro-life leader in the Ohio House of Representatives for years. As a State Representative, Jean sponsored an amendment to Women’s Health Services diverting $1.7 million in the Ohio family planning budget away from Planned Parenthood. Jean also sponsored the ABC resolution that established a task force to study the Abortion- Breast Cancer link and notifies women of the possible connection between the two. As a leading member of the Congressional Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, Jean has carried on the fight for Life at every turn. She is a vocal supporter for women and the unborn, and she backs up her words with actions. In addition to co-sponsoring countless pieces of pro-life legislation, she has introduced a bill extending the child tax credit to birthparents who give their child up for adoption. Jean is also a vocal advocate for victims of sexual abuse, speaking out against Planned Parenthood’s failure to report sexual abuse when a young girl abused by her own father came into an Ohio clinic and found her pleas ignored by clinic staff. As a vivid testament to her drive and commitment, Jean is an avid marathoner, and has completed over 65 marathons in her lifetime. Jean is married to Peter Schmidt and has one daughter, Emilie.
