Educating

The Susan B. Anthony List wants voters to make informed choices when they cast their ballots. Voters need to know how their vote will affect the success of pro-life legislation, Supreme Court nominations, and ultimately, the unborn.

We have a unique voter education program, through which we target pro-life women voters and educate them on important life issues. In the 2006 election, we ran our program in six key Senate races in order to inform these key voters about how their Senator voted on pro-life legislation.

A key part of our voter education program is engaging pro-life women voters in grassroots lobbying. Put simply, an engaged voter is more likely to be an active voter. In 2006, the Susan B. Anthony List sent targeted mailings about the Child Custody Protection Act to pro-life voters that included petition cards for women to fill out and send to their elected officials.

The mail piece was uniquely designed to grab voters' attention, depicting young women with piercings and tattoos - actions which, unlike abortion in most states, actually require parental consent to obtain.

Voter education also requires that pro-life voters know where their representatives stand on the issues. For example, pro-life women voters in Michigan received this piece of mail informing them that Debbie Stabenow is not representing their pro-life views in the Senate and sought their involvement in the political process.

The identified pro-life women voters also received several pre-recorded phone calls from the SBA List encouraging them to take action. At the Susan B. Anthony List, we know that an educated voter is an active voter and we want pro-life voters to know how their vote affects the lives of the unborn.
