History of SBA List

After the so-called 1992 "Year of the Woman" produced nothing but pro-abortion women elected to Congress, a group of women got together to form the Susan B. Anthony List PAC (a prior organization). These women, from all sides of the political spectrum, were upset that all of the women in Congress, but two, were pro-abortion. This did not and still doesn't reflect the sentiment of American women. The Susan B. Anthony List PAC was born and its focus was to raise early money for pro-life women candidates. The goal was to not only give direct support to candidates, but raise money from our members for the endorsed candidates in the form of bundled checks. We asked our members to contribute to at least two candidates, making the checks payable directly to campaigns of their choice. The checks were then mailed to the SBA List PAC. We then "bundled" the checks with other members' checks and mailed them to the campaigns.

A “new and improved” Susan B. Anthony List is formed. In 1997, the Susan B. Anthony List, a 501(c)(4) membership organization with a connected political action committee (the SBA List Candidate Fund), is formed. We felt there were many grassroots lobbying and educational outreach efforts that needed to be met. We also felt that in the previous elections, many of our candidates fell short because they did not have the necessary tactical skills needed to run a winning campaign.
