State Department Denies Abortion Group Your Tax Dollars
The U.S. Agency for International Development has implemented the Kemp-Kasten law and cut-off funding for Marie Stopes International, a major abortion provider, citing its involvement in coercive abortion methods.
Under the Kemp-Kasten law the United States is forbidden from aiding agencies that are involved with or support coercive abortions. The law, which has been in effect for more than two decades, specifically prohibits U.S. funding of any organization that “supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.”
The Kemp-Kasten law, first adopted under the Reagan administration, has been used since 2002 to stop U.S. support for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), citing its supports for China’s coercive abortion programs.
Today, the United States once again upheld the Kemp-Kasten law when the U.S. Agency for International Development cut-off its support for Marie Stopes International (MSI), a major abortion provider. Marie Stopes International, according to USAID, supports China’s coercive abortion practices and therefore will no longer receive U.S. aid in implementing its agenda. USAID has issued directives to several African countries to stop supplying MSI with US-funded birth control.
As Americans who value freedom, we want to do everything in our power to make sure we are not directly or indirectly supporting the horrible practice of coercive abortion. We are excited to see our government uphold this ideal by cutting-off support to a major abortion provider that does condone this horrific practice.
If you haven't already, visit the SBA List Action Center to send a letter to your Member of Congress, urging him or her to continue this policy of denying U.S. taxpayer support for organizations that condone forced abortions.
