House Could Vote This Week on Bill to Protect Disabled Babies
In Washington, there are few issues that are clear-cut on Capitol Hill. With partisan bickering and brinksmanship it is rare to see a consensus on any policy point. The issue of promoting education about all children being blessings has brought both sides of the aisle together, however. Senate bill 1810, the Prenatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act provides the perfect catalyst for universal agreement. The bill passed the Senate this week by unanimous consent, and now the House has a precious few days to vote on it.
This bipartisan bill sponsored by Senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) would provide parents with the educational resources they need to raise children with Down Syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis.
Currently, expectant parents face an environment of discrimination after a Down Syndrome diagnosis for their unborn child. Doctors across the country routinely encourage abortion in these cases, leading to an abortion rate of over 90% for unborn babies with Down Syndrome. The numbers are so bad that parents of Down Syndrome children are starting their own educational programs to shine the light of love for these children.
Clearly the Prenatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act is sorely needed as a beacon of light throughout the country. Contact Congress through the SBA List Action Center today and urge your representatives to support S.B. 1810.
