PEPFAR: Global AIDS Bill Passes House without Funding Abortions
July 28, 2008
Late last week, the House passed H.R.5501, the Tom Lantos and Henry J. Hyde United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Reauthorization Act of 2008 (PEPFAR) by a vote of 303 to 115. Prior to its passing the nefarious family planning language was removed from the $48 million bill. Back in June the Senate passed their version of the bill by a vote of 80 to 16. It now goes to the President who has indicated that he will sign it into law.
Family planning almost always includes abortion. This was another bill the Susan B. Anthony List was watching closely to make sure abortion funds weren’t in the fine print. With the pro-abortion forces in the majority, this is a victory. |
