Historic Pro-life Ground Campaign Urges Voters to Defeat Hagan at the Ballot Box

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Pro-life electoral politics hinges on the ability to reach voters personally. That’s why pro-life leaders have emphasized a robust ground game as critical to exposing Senator Kay Hagan’s record and defeating her at the ballot box. Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), andCampaign for American Values PAC have been on the ground in North Carolina since April and have made nearly 400,000 voter contacts.

Five field offices were opened in Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Wilmington, and Bakersville, NC to reach low propensity pro-life voters.

“Women Speak Out PAC was on the ground early with a massive grassroots operation to reach voters face to face at their door. Since April, our team has knocked on more than 152,500 North Carolina doors and made more than 246,000 phone calls,” said Women Speak Out PAC North Carolina State Director Tami Fitzgerald. “This ground campaign was a strategic decision to cut through the noise of television and radio ads. Our targeted voters were significantly impacted by our message outlining Senator Hagan’s extreme record on abortion.”

“Senator Hagan is a longtime ally of the abortion lobby who stood by Harry Reid in blocking efforts to stop taxpayer funding of abortion. She even opposes compassionate legislation to protect babies capable of feeling pain.  We are proud of our ground team, led by longtime pro-life leader Tami Fitzgerald, who has been working round the clock to expose the truth about Senator Hagan’s record and to get pro-lifers out to the polls,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List and Women Speak Out PAC.  “Going door to door and reaching voters on a personal level is a hallmark of the pro-life movement.”

The SBA List and Women Speak Out PAC spent more than $1.9 million in North Carolina. In addition to the ground campaign, $720,000 was spent airing the hard-hitting “Charlotte” ad in Raleigh and Charlotte, NC.

This year Women Speak Out PAC launched the largest ever pro-life door-to-door and phone call effort to impact three races critical to building a Senate majority and kicking Harry Reid out of power. By Election Day, a team of more than 700 field representatives had reached more than 875,000 pro-life voters who typically do not vote in midterm elections. The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
