The Lone Star State Latest Win For Pro-Life Movement
Washington, D.C. – The Susan B. Anthony List today is applauding the passage of SB 7 in the Texas legislature that, along with the recently passed budget, would strip an estimated $47 million from Planned Parenthood clinics in the state. The bill is now on its way to Governor Rick Perry’s desk where it is expected to be signed into law.
“Once again, the pro-life grassroots have fought and won another battle at the state level to defund Planned Parenthood,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The list of states taking up the cause of preventing taxpayer dollars from being used to fund the nation’s largest abortion provider is growing, and so is the list of states where those efforts are wildly successful.”
The Susan B. Anthony List has developed a scoreboard for their website where a defunding total and state-by-state breakdown can be found. Dannenfelser explains the scoreboard is the next in a series a steps to document the growing support and success the organization has had with the help of various statewide pro-life groups and their activists.
“The SBA List – in partnership with thousands of concerned citizens all around the United States – mobilized its activists to lobby their legislators to help makes these successes a reality. We are so very thankful for the hard work and dedication of the people on the ground in Texas, especially our friends at Texas Right to Life, and will continue to fight in other states to keep these wins coming.”
The Susan B. Anthony List has been working to defund Planned Parenthood at both the federal and state levels, including spending more than $800,000 on robust television and radio ad campaigns, a bus tour, grassroots mobilization and print ads. The organization has also released statements by potential and declared 2012 Republican presidential candidates in support of the defunding effort.
