SBA List Candidate Fund Endorses Richard Mourdock for U.S. Senate in Indiana

Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of former Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock for U.S. Senate in Indiana.  He will face Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) in November.

“In 2010 Joe Donnelly was one of the ‘pro-life’ Democrats led by Bart Stupak who betrayed their principles and constituents by voting for Obamacare, the largest expansion of abortion since Roe,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Last week in Charlotte, former Congressman Stupak lamented the fact that with the HHS Mandate, President Obama violated the compromise on abortion funding that he, Congressman Donnelly, and others thought they had secured through the President’s Executive Order. It seems that Stupak realized much too late what those of us in the pro-life movement knew long ago: the fig leaf of an Executive Order was never going to do a thing to prevent taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare.

“Votes have consequences and it’s time to send Joe Donnelly home like the rest of those representatives who failed to stand up with the unborn and pro-life taxpayers. Hoosier families are looking for a principled pro-life leader like Richard Mourdock in the U.S. Senate. Mourdock will be a strong voice for the unborn and women in Washington.”

Richard Mourdock was elected as Indiana Treasurer in 2006 and ran for Congress in the early 1990s.  A pro-life advocate, Mourdock supports a ban on taxpayer funding of abortion and opposes the “Freedom of Choice Act” which would pave the way for unrestricted abortion. Mourdock has been endorsed by Indiana Right to Life.

During the 2010 midterm elections, the Susan B. Anthony List defeated 15 out of 20 of the Democrats who failed to hold firm on their pro-life principles during the vote over the Affordable Care Act. The SBA List launched its Votes Have Consequences program to hold these so-called “pro-life” Democrats accountable for that career-defining vote which opened the flood gates for taxpayer funding of abortion.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its connected Political Action Committee, the SBA List Candidate Fund, are dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the election, education, promotion, and mobilization of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
