Washington, D.C. – This morning, the Susan B. Anthony List congratulated longtime pro-life leader and SBA List-endorsed Congresswoman Michele Bachmann on winning her re-election battle for Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District.

“Michele Bachmann is one of the pro-life movement’s most trusted and valued allies in Washington and the Susan B. Anthony List is proud of her victory,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Congresswoman Bachmann understands that the rights of women and their children are inextricably linked. That understanding has driven her to be an unwavering advocate for Life – both in her personal life as well as in the halls of Congress. Michele’s perseverance in defending women and babies from the tragedy of abortion and in fighting for the conscience rights and religious freedoms of taxpayers is an invaluable asset to our cause. Her victory speaks to the power of pro-life voters who withstood an all-out assault by the pro-abortion lobby to defeat her. We look forward to her continued pro-life leadership in the House of Representatives.”

The SBA List Candidate Fund and SBA List members contributed a total of $31,000 in direct and bundled donations to Congresswoman Bachmann’s reelection campaign. Leading up to Election Day, the SBA List also mobilized its Minnesota members and activists to get out the vote for Michele Bachmann.

In 2010, Rep. Bachmann won the SBA List 2010 Distinguished Leader Award for her consistent advocacy for unborn children and women in Congress. Last year, she voted against all short-term Continuing Resolutions to fund the government because they included funding for the pro-abortion health care law and also failed to defund Planned Parenthood of the now more than $487 million in taxpayer dollars it receives per year.

Michele and her husband, Marcus, have five children and have also served as foster parents to over 23 at-risk teens, which has inspired Congresswoman Bachmann to become one of Congress’ leading advocates for foster and adopted children, earning her bipartisan praise for her efforts.

During the 2012 election cycle, the Susan B. Anthony List spent $11.2 million nationwide to accomplish three goals: 1) ensure the presidential challenger made specific pro-life commitments, 2) combat the “war on women” narrative, and 3) expose the extreme abortion agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party of abortion on-demand paid for by the taxpayers.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
