Susan B. Anthony List Summer Internship Program

Program Overview

The Susan B. Anthony List could not accomplish the work that it does without the invaluable help of our high school and college interns. Though the Susan B. Anthony List started with just one high school intern several years ago, we had over ten high school and college interns in the summer of 2006. Our interns travel from near and far to join us in our fight to save the unborn. Most of our high school interns come from the local area and college interns have come to us from many different colleges and universities such as: Princeton University, Michigan State University, Marymount University, Franciscan University at Steubenville, James Madison University, Regent University, Catholic University, and the College of William and Mary.

In 2006, the Susan B. Anthony List began to develop and expand the intern program by including special activities for our interns. These activities included traveling to some of the many historical sites of our wonderful capitol and meetings with prominent pro-life leaders.

On Capitol Hill, interns met with Congresswomen Jean Schmidt (R-OH) and Cathy McMorris (R-WA). These women shared their life stories and deep pro-life convictions with the students, encouraging them to continue their work in order to make a difference in the pro-life movement. The interns also visited the White House Old Executive Office Building to speak with Tim Goeglein, Special Assistant to the President for Public Liaison. In addition, Interns toured numerous historic buildings in our nation’s capital such as the U.S. Capitol, the National Archives, and the Pentagon.

For the summer of 2007 we will be expanding our intern program even more, offering students more opportunities to experience the history and culture that the D.C. area has to offer, providing more chances to become well acquainted with the pro-life leaders of the 110th Congress, and increasing the responsibilities of the interns giving them the opportunity to get deeply involved in the pro-life fight.

Intern Responsibilities

The Susan B. Anthony List expects interns to be self-starters with good communication skills. The ability to balance multiple demands and work with shifting priorities and deadlines is a must, along with initiative and a demonstrated willingness to learn.

The internship requires assisting in the day-to-day operations of our non-profit organization and requires some administrative duties.

Duties will be divided between typical daily administrative support and larger projects such as: event planning, fundraising, legislative and political research, drafting articles for our website, and other projects.

Ideal candidates will have an interest in non-profit advocacy work and pro-life politics.

How to Apply

The application deadline for the 2008 Summer Internship Program is March 21, 2008. Applications for internships during the spring and fall semesters are accepted on a rolling basis. The Susan B. Anthony List is willing to work with students to gain college credit for their internship experience.

Interested students can send a resume, cover letter, and writing sample to the attention of Mollie Tschida at information@sba-list.org.
