Renee Ellmers | North Carolina’s 2nd District
Renee Ellmers was inspired to run for Congress when she and her husband attended a Town Hall meeting to hear former Congressman Bob Etheridge speak on behalf of President Obama’s health care plan. As a volunteer, she became an outspoken critic of government-run health care and decided to challenge Etheridge for the Congressional seat.
Informed by her health care background as a nurse and running a trauma surgery clinic alongside her husband, a surgeon, Renee is committed to rescinding taxpayer funding of abortion in health care and in every aspect of federal spending is urgently needed in the coming Congress.
Since coming to Congress, Rep. Ellmers has joined the Pro-life Caucus and the Pro-life Women’s Caucus. She has been a vocal opponent of federal funding of Planned Parenthood. She cosponsored H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.
