Oppose the Pelosi Rule

Nancy Pelosi has proposed a Rule for the debate on the health care reform bill that does NOT allow for a vote on the Pitts-Stupak Amendment. This means that pro-life leaders in Congress will not get a chance to vote on or even debate the pro-life Amendment. We've been warning that this might happen and now it has. Now we are asking every SBA List activist to tell their Representative to oppose the Pelosi Rule. We must keep the pressure on our elected officials. Tell your Representative to join Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) in opposing the Pelosi Rule.

As one of your constituents who has been closely following the health care debate, I just learned that the Pitts-Stupak Amendment has been excluded from the Rule for the Floor debate on  the health care reform bill.

The non-partisan Congressional Research Service determined in an October 9th study that the health care reform legislation currently being considered by Congress uses federal funds to pay for elective abortions and plans that cover elective abortions.

Therefore, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) have co-authored the bipartisan Pitts-Stupak Amendments that bans federal funding of elective abortions and plans that pay for elective abortions.

Many Americans care deeply about whether abortion funding is included in health care reform.

Because the Rule does not include the opportunity to hear the debate this important issue, it is important that every Representative oppose this Rule to at least allow for open debate on this critical issue.

Therefore, the National Right to Life Committee and the Family Research Council have promised to score the procedural vote on any Rule that does not allow for vote on the Pitts-Stupak Amendment.

A vote for the Rule will be recorded as a vote for federal funding of elective abortions.

As a constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose the Pelosi Rule and allow for real debate on the issues involved in health care reform.
